BLDG1107: Construction Surveying
Introduction to the theory and practical applications of surveying relevant to construction. Site plans and construction drawings are analyzed and interpreted for building layout and field surveying. Emphasis is placed on operating field surveying equipment, including electronic theodolite and Total Station, as well as note keeping, accurate measurement of angles, distances and elevations, and preparing calculations associated with field data to produce building layouts. They also research provincial, municipal and national databases for topographic maps, point coordinates, survey benchmarks, and legal surveys.
Geographical Information Systems
Introduction to geographical information systems (GIS) and science; hardware and software components; geo-referencing of geospatial data; vector and raster data representation and topological relationships; GIS databases; vector and raster data exploration, analysis and processing; data display and visualization; spatial analytical modeling; data quality, integration, and standards; concepts of web GIS and mapping services; GIS project design and implementation.
